Bangalore is known as the Garden City as it is known for its cool climate with less fluctuations in the weather. Also famous for the tech where the biggest mnc company main branch is present in Bangalore. On the other hand, it is also known for its pollution, traffic and many more so if you have a great time, Bangalore is one of the best places.

1.KAIGAL FALLS

Kaigal falls is located in theChittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. It is around 122 kms from Bangalore . Kaigal falls comes near the Kaigal village which is on the Kuppam Palamaner highway . This is a beautiful place surrounded by rocks and thick green forest . It is around 2.5 kms from the Kaigal village. From the parking lot we need to walk around 800 mts to see the beautiful waterfalls . The speciality of the waterfall is the Shiva linga on which water falls on it .

Note : if the water force is heavy you can’t see the Shiva linga . Surrounding the waterfall there are no hotels or any major shops so plan accordingly.

2 . DEVARAYANADURGA HILLS

Devarayanadurga which translates in English as ‘the fort of God ‘ located in the Tumkur district of Karnataka. A peaceful place with a lake of beautiful greenery and two old temples is the best place for your weekend getaway. You need to climb around 200 steps to reach the hilltop. Devrayanga Durga hills is around 73 kms from Bangalore . So if you are planning for a very short one day relaxing trip then don’t miss this place.

Note : DevarayanaDurga hills has many monkeys so be aware of it

3.KAIWARA

Kaiwara is a small town in the Chikkaballapur district of Karnataka state . It is around 65 kms from Bangalore. If you are mythological enthusiastic and even for trekkers then don’t try to miss this place. Kaiwara is known for the great poet Sri Yogi Kaiwara Narayana Thataiyya . Here there are many temples you need to visit which have a lot of mythological history . If you want to travel it is slightly challenging so be prepared for it .

KAILASAGIRI

Kailasagiri is a place near Chintamani town which is in Chintamani taluk of Chikkaballapur district of Karnataka state . It is around 9 kms from the place of Kaiwara . So this place is around 73 kms from Bangalore . The mythological history of this place says that the Pandavas from Mahabharata are believed to have lived here during their exile . From the parking lot you need to trek for a small distance where you have decent steps to reach for the top . This is a man made cave, the best place recommended for relaxation . Inside this cave there are shiva and durga devi which are daily worshiped by the people who visit here . Inside this cave it’s so cool so don’t miss it . Even from outside the Kailasagiri hill is an amazing view which is definitely an eye feast for you.

NOTE : There are no major shops so please take your water bottles and packed snacks and be aware of the plenty of monkeys . Honest requests from my side don’t litter the place . Be a responsible traveler .

TK FALLS [ THOTTIKALLU FALLS ]

TK falls is a scenic and adventurous destination near Bangalore . TK falls is near Kaggalipura which is on the Kanakapura main road from Bangalore. It is around 35 kms from Bangalore which is one of the nearest and best places near Bangalore . This is a seasonal waterfall which means that you can see the beauty of the waterfall in the monsoon season and somewhat better in the post monsoon season . This is a little off road place you need to visit and big rocks and surrounding big trees . This is not a safe place to chill, just see and enjoy nature , because as we have heard some bad incidents due to the irresponsibleness of the people . So my sincere request don’t replicate them . Again mentoning please be a responsible traveler and don’t be a bad example to anyone . And to be noted please check prior and is it open and plan to visit the place .

THE ART OF LIVING

The art of living is a volunteer based educational and a non governmental organization. It was founded by Ravi Shankar . It’s a good place for both spiritual, mental and physical wellness . It’s around 27 kms from Bangalore.

The ashram provides the facility of a Bus tour that can take you around the entire campus for sightseeing . This visit is a fixed time which you need to register at the register desk. This is a place for not everyone so as your preferences you can think of visiting this place .

7.CHUNCHI FALLS

Chunchi falls is on the way from Bangalore to Mekedatu and Sangam which is around 89 kms from Bangalore . It is in Madarahalli . Chunchi falls is an almost 50 ft high cascade of falls formed by the Arkavathi river named after the tribal couple chuncha and chunchi . The waterfall is between the rocks and to reach the waterfall also you need to walk between the rocks to reach the mesmerizing waterfalls and to note here you need to walk for a half kilometer where there are no trees on the way for shade but you have beautiful small tiny shops and no restaurants . As you reach the waterfall you have an amazing view you can even go down to enjoy in water like a small pool . Again to note here this is a seasonal waterfall which is best to be visited in monsoon and the post monsoon .

NOTE : My sincere request from my side is that alcohol is not allowed here so please don’t spoil nature .

SANGAM

Sangam is around 93 kms from Bangalore which is in Kanakapura taluk of Ramanagara district. Sangam in the local language kannada is known as ‘meeting point’ . This is the place where river kaveri and river Arkavathi meet . Here you get breathtaking mesmerizing views surrounded by the forest full of greenery , here you get small boats where you can enjoy the water .It is one of the best places to visit with your family and friends . Here the entry is maintained by the karnataka forest department where they would charge you 10 rs per person . Localalates had kept small shops here where they provide you the best of authentic local foods and my personal recommendation to try the fishes which are catched there only and cooked fry which is so amazing .

MEKEDATU

Mekedatu is around 5 kms from Sangam . Mekedatu in the local language Kannada is known as ‘ Goat’s leap’ where there is a saying that a Goat which was chased by the Tiger attempted to save life it jumped the rocks between which the river was flowing but the tiger didn’t attempt to jump .

After crossing Mekedatu by the small boat then from there you get local buses where they would charge you around 80 rs for up and down . From there you walk down on the rocks for a small distance to experience the eye feast .

NOTE : As per recent news this place may be developed into a dam for the needy people so the beauty of Mekedatu would be disturbed so better try to visit before the changes are made .

NELLIGUDDE KERE

Nelligudde kere is one of the most underrated places near Bangalore . It is around 35 kms from Bangalore . It is around 2 kms from the Bidadi center next to Mysore-Bangalore express highway . This is the best sunset to see near Bangalore . One side road and on the other side spectacular view of lake behind the lake beautiful trees are which gives a mesmerizing view .

NOTE : There are no shops or anything near .

I recommend you to try the famous Bidadi Thatte idli .

Don’t litter the place as already it is dirty due to some spiritual

events so you don’t be one of the reasons for it .

MULBAGAL

Mulbagal is also known as Mudalabaagilu which means in the local language Kannada the entry door because Mulbagal is the first place to get sunrise in Karnataka . In Mulbagal to enjoy for a weekend getaway is a perfect place as it is a place for all type of people like spiritual lovers as many temples which are historically famous , for trekking lovers small easy basic treks are available , for food lovers MULBAGAL DOSA which is one of the most famous in recent years a must try . complete details of Mulbagal would come soon so stay connected

The water source of this waterfall is the river Kaveri . The waterfall is divided into two major drops known as Gaganachukki and Barachukki waterfall. The Barachukki waterfall is located in the Kollegal taluk of Chamarajanagar and Gaganachukki waterfall in the malavalli taluk of Mandya district. By this waterfall the first hydroelectric power generation took place and even today also the generation of electricity is taking place . SKANDAGIRI HILLS

SKANDAGIRI HILLS is the perfect place for the trekking lovers where you can see the spectacular sunrise and a small temple. Skandagiri Hills is located in Chikkaballapur district of Karnataka is about 68 kms from Bangalore .The peak is at an altitude of 1350 meters . Chikmagalur is around 245 kms Bangalore for a two days or 3 days trip with cool weather, misty fog and rain with a hot coffee is a proper destination. HOGENAKKAL FALLS

Hogenakkal waterfall is usually referred to as Niagara falls of India as it is a stunning natural wonder which is renowned for breathtaking beauty. The sound of roaring water, combined with the mist that rises as the falls hit the rocks , creates an ethereal atmosphere.Hogenakkal waterfall is formed by the river Kaveri in the borders of Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka and dharmapuri of Tamil Nadu. You have plenty of options to chill here as there are small boat rides with safety jackets . Can try authentic foods, especially fish which are catched there only. You even have the option of therapeutic natural water bathing. You even have the option of getting body massages . The distance from Bangalore is around 125 kms . My personal recommendation is if possible go on your bikes , this is an unforgettable adventure on the open road so don’t miss it . Boat ride prices may vary from season to season and may be an average around 1200 – 1500 rs and parking charges are applicable.

MANDARAGIRI HILLS

Mandargiri hills is a hidden gem in Karnataka which offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and spiritual tranquility located in the Tumkur district of Karnataka. The Mandargiri temple complex is an important Jain pilgrimage center. There’s even a statue of Shravanabelagola . The temple is one of the unique sculptures a must visit place. Next to that one small mountain is there with the steps so easily accessible to the peak where in the peak artificial tree is there and you can see the beautiful Tumkur city from here . Behind this mountain there is a water body and surrounded by the green mountains is a perfect place. If you are planning for a picnic with your family or family then this is one of the best suitable places. It’s around 70 kms from Bangalore on the national highway so go explore and enjoy.

BIG BANYAN TREE

Big Banyan tree is also known as Dodda aaladha mara in local language Kannada is a 400 years old Banyan tree located in the kethohalli village of Bangalore district. The hill is around 1226 m from the sea level.The hill looks imposing as one drives closer to it and it is easy to understand why it is called the ‘rock of death.’ The Nandi Mantap looks like a small square on top and all visible sides of the rock look steep and dangerous; only upon reaching the base does one see the rock’s gentle slopes. Around two temples are there and the beautiful flowing of the Arkavathi river can be seen . It is around 47 kms from Bangalore.

2. ABBEY FALLS

Abbey falls is known as the abbi falls which is one of the well known falls in the Coorg. Abbey falls is one of the tourist locations to the north of the Madikeri . River Kaveri drops from the 70 ft rock which gives the mesmerizing view to us. It is one of the well known unique waterfalls in Karnataka as this is not a waterfall from too high but this is one of the waterfalls which has a wider waterfall area . The abbey waterfall is located in a coffee plantation and getting down into water or swimming is not allowed.

3. MALLALLI FALLS

Mallalli waterfall is one of the wonderful waterfalls in Karnataka .This waterfall is around the 120 ft height which is located in the foot of Pushpagiri hills . The waterfall is by the Kumaradhara river. This is one of the tourist places which comes to the north of Madikeri . To reach this waterfall you need to trek for a few minutes to see the spectacular beauty. Mostly always recommended to visit in monsoon or in summer it may be completely dry.

4. DUBARE ELEPHANT CAMP

Dubare elephant camp is located on the banks of kaveri river which is necessary to our inner child’s heart . Depending on the season and waterflow we should cross the river water by walking in the water or if water flow is too much through small boats which you need to pay extra.

Dubare elephant camp is mainly known for the taking care of the elephants by the karnataka forest department and mainly the elephants which are here are the elephants which take part in the world famous Mysore dasara.

The activities here are you would have interaction with the elephants, bathing to elephants in the kaveri river by the tourists,feeding food to the elephants .

Raja’s seat is one of the attractive sightseeing places in the Madikeri town and one of the recommended places when you visit with your family. Raja’s seat is commonly known as the Seat of Kings . It was a known place where the Kodagu kings used to enjoy their evening with a beautiful sunset and the sunrise with the lush green beauty . This place is along with a Ghandi Mantap park which attracts the children as an attractive toy train is there.

6.NAMDROLING MONASTERY BYLAKUPPE

This is one of the tourist places to the east of Madikeri . It is also known as the Golden temple and it is the one of the largest Tibetan settlements in India.This one of the places for Namdroling Monastery’s main entrance is an attractive four story tower with a wheel portraying symbols of Buddhism. In side the monastery where the tourists can visit is the temple, three big statues are there which are in the middle the lord buddha who is known as the founder of buddhism and lord amitayus and lord Padmasambhava are on either side of lord buddha . It is a must visit place for different experiences as this place is different from our Indian culture.

You can pray,meditate, and rotate the mani prayer drums which is one of the traditions of buddhist temples which means it gives the same benefit of chanting ‘Om Mani Padme Hum’. Inside the temple premises you have even the option for shopping .

Bhagamandala temple, also known as Bhagandeshwara kshetra is present in the Bhagamandala village also along with triveni sangam also is one of the sightseeing places here . Here the lord Bhagandeshwara is present which is the form of lord shiva is mainly present along with this lord ganesha,lord narayana and lord Subramanya swamy are also present.

9. TALAKAVERI

This is one of the tourist places to the west of the Madikeri . Talakaveri is located in the brahmagiri hills and is one of the religious spots. Talakaveri is known as the birthplace of river Kaveri . This place has two temples one is lord shiva and another one lord ganesha temple.

10. OMKARESHWARA TEMPLE

The Chikli hole reservoir is surrounded by the thick lush green forest, water and a grassland, a perfect picnic spot. This place is a less crowded place compared to other places and this is a man-made beauty with nature where the beauty appears by the overflow of the river Kaveri .

1. MULLAYANAGIRI PEAK :

With an altitude of 1950 metres , Mullayanagiri is the highest peak in karnataka which makes the mesmerising attraction for adventure lovers . The weather and temperature lean heavily on the pleasant and calming side . Make sure you wear comfortable attire as you need to climb a little bit with an inclination of 60 degrees .

2. BABABUDANGIRI HILLS –

Bababudangiri is a mountain in the western ghats of karnataka . also a treat for both adventure seekers and pilgrims . History tells that baba Budan lived here in 17 th century . Legend had smuggled some coffee beans from Arab and sowed the first seeds of coffee beans . Today KARNATAKA is one of the producers of coffee in INDIA . It is a sacred spot for the Hindu and the Muslim community as frequented by people for the Daragh of Baba Budangiri , called as ‘Sri Guru Dattreya Baba Budan Swamy Daragh . Baba Budan was a Sufi saint who came to this mountain and started meditating in the cave where once Dattatreya meditated .

3. Z POINT –

Z point a small trek around 3.5kms to see the serene surroundings with a 360 degree view of beautiful green landscapes with a small waterfall on the way of the trek also offers several adventurous activities . The cool breeze that blows your hair on the peak and the sunset on the horizon in the evening will definitely leave you awestruck with a feeling that cannot be explained.

TIP : In monsoon be aware of leeches take precautionary measures by applying dettol/savlon have salt or perfume with you . 4. BHADRA WILDLIFE SANCTUARY-

The sanctuary takes its name from the Bhadra River , popularly known as Muthodi wildlife sanctuary . It is a Tiger reserve area but apart from the tiger it is a great place to sight and observe other mammals , reptiles and more than 250 species of birds , many of which are endemic to the Western ghats . The reason to visit is, the karnataka forest department organises jeep Safari in which you can witness a high probability of tiger , leopard , deers and many more animals and birds . Another reason is you can witness Bhadra dam which offers a great view when water is being released.

River Bhadra falls as the beautiful Hebbe falls . Hebbe falls is situated about 10 km away from the famous hill station Kemmangundi in Chikmagalur town in Karnataka. The waterfalls gushes down in two stages to form Dodda Hebbe and Chikka Hebbe meaning Big falls and Small falls. The majestic falls are located inside a coffee estate and can be reached either by a walk or by a four wheeler .

Keep your water bottle handy and take small sips of water every 15 minutes. Do this even if you don’t feel thirsty. This trick will keep you hydrated throughout and helps regain the water lost through sweat.
As many trekking places are amazing so tips for monsoon trekking Apply Dettol or Savlon Liquid at the base to avoid leeches if you are scared of them. A few leeches sucking a few drops of blood won’t do any harm.

ABOUT

Located in the Charmadi ghat section of the Western Ghats in the Belthangady taluk of Dakshina Kannada district, the trek has the most serene and pristine landmarks like Rani Jhari Falls, Ballarayanadurga Fort and Bandaje Arbi.

Ballalarayana Durga – Bandaje falls trek is a combination of two treks — Ballalarayana Durga and Bandaje Arbi — because many do not know they can go all the way to Bandaje waterfalls when we say Ballalarayana Durga trek.

Arbi in local language means “waterfalls” and hence the words Bandaje Arbi, Bandaje Arbi falls, Bandaje falls are used interchangeably.

HISTORY OF BALLARAYANADURGA FORT

The Ballalarayana Durga Trek holds an abandoned fort from the 17th century at its peak, which was built by Hoysala King Veera Ballala . Another interesting feature of the Ballalarayana Durga trek is the Rani Jhari cliff where the local queen slipped and fell to her death. The cliff is a sight to behold during the monsoons.

WHAT ALL CAN BE SEEN IN THIS TREK

THE INITIAL FOREST SECTION : Although the forest section is short, it is filled with life. Watch out for its age old trees, a variety of insects, birds and flora.
THE MESMERIZING BEAUTY OF WESTERN GHATS : The grasslands on the trek are so pretty that they almost resemble the Ali and Bedni meadows of the Himalayas.
WATERFALL VIEW FROM THE PEAK : There are only a handful of treks that allow you to see the water falling from the snout over a 100 feet to the ground. And Ballalarayana Durga trek is one of them!

THE TREK INFORMATION

Ballalarayana durga trek is one of the treks where it starts from a relatively higher altitude, hence the climb to the fort is not too tiring. However, you will descend almost 1,300 feet to bandaje waterfalls and get back up the same way, covering approximately 6.5 kilometers overall.

Based on the distance and the altitude gain, the trek is divided into two sections:

| Section I: Kalabhairaveshwara Temple to Ballalarayana Durga Fort
| Section II: Ballalarayana Durga Fort to Bandaje Falls .

Now we will see about the section I :

Trek distance: 3 km

Trek duration: 1 hour and 30 minutes

The trek starts from Kalabhairaveshwara temple. The route from the temple to the starting point or the forest checking is a muddy steep road which is slippery during monsoon .

Jeeps and other SUVs can go all the way up to the start point covering a distance of 1 kilometer. If you are in a normal sedan, we recommend you park your vehicle at the temple and start trekking from there.

Near the forest checking towards the right around 900 mts is the rani jhari view point where you can see the spectacular beauty of kudremukh region, ballarayanadurga fort and even the starting point of bandaje falls trek .

Once you arrive at the actual trek start point, notice an old forest department billboard, a dustbin and a check post-like barricade.

Even though the trek is not challenging, you may get dehydrated due to exertion, especially in autumn and in months leading up to summer.

As you start from the forest checkpoint you enter into a lush green forest and in monsoon it would be slippery where the path or the trail is filled with rocks and the mud . And in the monsoon this forest trail would be filled with leeches . e13

| HEY WE HAVE A TIP : Apply Dettol or Savlon Liquid at the base to avoid leeches if you are scared of them. If you are not too worried, the best option is to remove them once you reach Bandaje falls. A few leeches sucking a few drops of blood won’t do any harm.

In about 100 meters after you have climbed the vertical rock face and crossed a zig-zag path, you will arrive at the first clearing.

You will get the second view of Ballalarayana Durga fort from here. You cannot make out at first as the fort is in complete ruins. All that is remaining of the fort now is one or two rows of foundation rocks.

From the second clearing Ballalarayana Durga fort is accessible with a gradual ascent to the summit. This is your final push to the fort.

Upon reaching the fort which covers a large area, explore the ruins, the bastions on the edges, stone carvings and rest for a while by taking in the panoramic views of the Shola grasslands and Shola forests on one side, and Kudremukh national park and its peaks on the other.

You can also see the Rani Jhari viewpoint and the Kalabhairaveshwara temple from where you started your trek.

IN THE SECTION II : FROM BALLARAYANADURGA FORT TO BANDAJE FALLS

Trek Distance: 3.8 kilometers

Trek duration: 2 hours and 30 minutes

From the Ballalarayana Durga fort, take the same route back from where you entered the fort. Descend for approximately 350 meters until you reach the point from where you had the last push to climb to the fort. At the deviation here, take the grassland trail on your left to proceed towards Bandaje falls.There is also an alternate route to Bandaje falls from Ballalarayana Durga fort.

Continue on the trail while enjoying the 360° view of the Western Ghats. Don’t be surprised if the clouds accompany you by floating right beside you!

The entire trail from the fort till the waterfall is on rolling hills. You will come across three to four mounds which you ascend and descend.This patch in autumn and winter looks desolate and is filled with sand in between rocks. It makes you wonder if any river flowed here once upon a time to carry all that sand!

About 3.8 kilometers from the fort and two and a half hours later, the trek starts to descend towards the final downhill to reach Bandaje falls.At this descent, you cannot make out if there is really a waterfall at the end. You will not hear the water flowing between rocks, nor will you see any signs of water.

It is only when you reach the section filled with thick trees will you hear the water flowing. You start to smile from the inside upon hearing the sound of flowing water.After a 4-hour journey, the thought of drinking the fresh, unspoilt water and dipping your feet to cool off brightens your mood.

The first glimpse of the water gushing through rocks is a sight for sore eyes.The waterfall looks different in each season. In autumn and winter, the water gently flows until it drops down from the peak . The same waterfall in monsoons the water gushes with such force it looks as if it is milk that is flowing.

CAUTION : From the peak of the waterfall be careful while admiring nature as the rocks would be slippery and you are 1000 ft in height from the ground level.

Do not forget to take in the view from the peak of the waterfall. On a clear day, you may see the outline of Mangalore district on your right, whereas the forests of Dakshina Kannada district are always in front of you.

HOW TO ARRIVE

BY ROAD : There are both government run and private buses that travel to Horanadu. Most buses start from Bangalore after 10:30 pm and reach Mudigere around 5:30 am the next morning. Take a bus from Mudigere to Sunkasale and from Sunkasale to Durgadahalli a jeep or a minibus that goes to Durgadahalli.

If you want to trek from Kulem, then continue your journey by the same train and reach Kulem at 4:35 AM.

Best train option from Bangalore –

Catch the Chennai Central – Vasco Da Gama Express 17311 from Yesvantpur Junction at 9:35 PM and reach Castle Rock at 9:25 AM.

BY ROAD – From Kolem, visitors have the option to hop on a shared jeep, costing approximately INR 500 per person for a group of seven.
